Basic data structures like stacks, queues, heaps, trees, and such are not taught at all. If you want to truly understand algorithm design and analysis, this is your book.

Probably not the best as a reference though. Beware there is no code in this book only higher level pseudo code so if you want specific examples with code you are better off Google-ing or looking for another book.

These names don’t really tell you what they are, so the authors refer to them as the “staying ahead” properties. I’m not normally a fan of CS textbooks, but this one is great. I should also point out that there are several well-crafted exercises in each chapter to cement your understanding and give your grey matter a good workout!

This works well within the confines of the book because the argument is that the greedy algorithm “stays ahead” of the optimal solution, but I can easily imagine a student using that terminology getting confused looks from peers who learned with other books.
