Chihaya and Arata start searching for them, but they don't find the glasses for Arata's match. During the match, Taichi is beating Arata as he switches the cards, but is then interrupted by Chihaya saying that she'll replace Arata in the match.
He is eventually defeated by Chihaya and all three of them win an award. Even so, he still gets yelled by his mother and his mother tells him never to participate in a competition that he cannot win at. After the competition, Chihaya goes out looking for Arata's glasses. While she is away, he admits to Arata that he was the one that stole the glasses and hands them to Arata. They later go out to look and call out to Chihaya to tell her that they found them.
what is to give light must endure burning - Hi! I love your analysis about chihayafuru,
Chihaya hears them from the branches of a tree and jumps down on top of them, laughing. Since then, Taichi, Chihaya, and Arata became good friends and referred to each other by their first names, signifying they are very close friends. They even joined a Competitive Karuta Society with their teacher being Harada-sensei and participated in a group competition.
The three of them then went their seperate ways in Junior High School with Taichi going to a Junior High School with a one-and-a-half hour commute that most students found difficult to be accepted into.
Synopsis Karuta Style Taichi's initial style of karuta is all brain, with little body. He makes great use of his mind in karuta matches, reasoning out probabilities and strategies completely in his head, and takes great pride in the fact that he makes few, if any, faults.
He considers practicing his swing in front of others "embarrassing", which disadvantages him in the more physical aspect of karuta.
- Where does Chihaya’s and Taichi’s relationship stand, as of now?
- Taichi Mashima
Taichi practicing swinging However, spurred on by his desire to compete on par with Arata and Chihaya, he vastly improves in the later part of the manga. He has been called a "monster" once he has self-confidence by Sakurazawa-senseicoach of Fujisaki Highand it has been noted by Hiro that Taichi becomes stronger when Chihaya is not around Chapter Notably, when he managed to get to final of his very first Class-A official tournament beating Sudou in the top 8 and Murao in the top 4.
He lost to Chihaya in final match but all that witness the match admit that both Chihaya and Taichi are both had proven to be great karuta players.
Harada-sensei who watched the match carefully said Taichi is more suited to play defensive style karuta instead of offensive style karuta which Chihaya and Harada-sensei specialized in. Also noted how good is Taichi when he played against Chihaya with an arrangement which is different from his normal one. In chapterTaichi who had quit the school karuta club was seen to be playing a lot of matches against Meijin Suou.
I think what is clear to everyone is that they are no longer the same as they were before. That there was no way they could revert to the way they were before, even if they reconciled and started talking to each other again.

A lot of things decisively changed, ended, began after it, and it is undeniably shown in the narrative. I believe that this is precisely why Taichi was so afraid to confess to Chihaya in the first place. Because he, too, knew of the consequences if the confession turned on its head. Which it did, of course. So, what exactly is their relationship now?
Is there any way to term it? The way their relationship is being depicted now, in my opinion, can mean two things.
And that will be analysed in the bulk of this post. Presently, they are friends but not really because they wish to, but because of their shared long history and mutual associations. This is not to say that they dislike each other and that they are being forced to interact with each other.
They hold mutual friendships in Mizusawa and received information about each other.[Taichi Chihaya] Adorable~!
What convinced Taichi to rush to Omi Jinguu in Chapter was not the thought of Chihaya alone, but the thought of seeing Chihaya playing against Arata in a team match. After leaving the club, Taichi says he cannot return because of what he did and felt thoroughly guilty for his actions. The mere memory of his childhood days spent with Chihaya and Arata shared association was the one that pushed him to meet her and his teammates.
Think of it the opposite way. Anyway, that would not be what Chihayafuru is, in the first place. So now, it is rather heavily implied that Taichi and Chihaya are trying to salvage what was shared history before everything changed.
But trying to do something does not always mean the outcome is achieved and we see how it is painstakingly obvious that at times, Chihaya and Taichi are forcing themselves. When Taichi makes his first appearance inhe enters the club room. This is symbolic because it shows again of their shared history with each other and it was the very same place Taichi made his confession. When Chihaya realises it is Taichi, she stutters and finds herself at a loss for words. When it comes to karuta, Arata is like a god.
He is consummate, measured, calm and — well — perfect. No wonder Taichi compares himself negatively to him. In truth, Arata is actually a shy, dorky guy, but this is what makes him even more endearing. Arata is the ideal, and it fits the idealistic nature of the series to ship him with Chihaya.
Thematically, Taichi x Chihaya would not make as much sense. I think he will eventually develop to the stage where he can be satisfied with himself as who he is. I think she fails to recognise this within herself, though. As children, they all loved each other, although it took Taichi some time to warm up to Arata. The cracks in their friendship show after years have passed, though.
Chihaya is the one who brings them all together. I doubt Taichi and Arata would ever connect with each other if Chihaya were not there in the middle.
Note that this is probably why Arata was so emotionally distant for a good portion of the story after his reintroduction as a teenager — right up until Taichi told him he and Chihaya were not dating.
